Boston, MA – January 26, 2008. Lela V. Nelson was the champion in the Long Jump against Olympic and World Champion, Carolina Kluft of Sweden, at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games. Lela V. is a native of Detroit, Michigan and a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, currently residing and training in North Carolina.

“Lela V., as she is called, opened her Long Jump season with a solid win,” comments Joseph Codrington her agent. This is Lela’s first time competing at the Boston Indoor Games, which boasts a twelve-year history. Olympian Carolina Kluft was chosen to win the event, but no one told Lela V. who won the Long Jump by a 10-centimeter margin. This win qualifies Lela V. to compete at the US Indoor Nationals to be held again at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston where a winning jump will place her on the US team to the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain.

CE’S Lela Nelson defeats Olympic Champion at Boston Indoor Games

Lela V. Nelson opened her long jump season with a solid win against Olympic Champion Carolina Kluft of Sweden at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games tonight. The sell-out crowd was enthusiastic as Carolina prepared for each of her jumps and large sections of the crowd were promised special gifts if she broke the record during her jumps. Meanwhile, Lela focused on the excellent preparation and fall training she had from her coach, Scott Hall, and executed the things she worked on in practice, producing her best indoor mark ever and taking the victory. Lela V was so focused that she was unaware that she had won the competition at first.
