Barbados - RUN BARBDOS is a twenty six year old event. Held the first weekend in December. Races include a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, and a Midnight Mile Fun Run.
Today Barbados is a cosmopolitan country with a strong character of its own. It is prosperous and progressive and still full of natural charm. The people are friendly, fun loving and warm. Learn all about the friendly people of Barbados, their lifestyles, history and places of cultural interest.
Bahamas – MARATHON BAHAMAS a two year old event. Held the second weekend in January (MLK weekend). Races include a Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay Marathon.
Newcomers to The Islands of The Bahamas quickly realize that they have stumbled upon not one, but many destinations.
Between the “poles” of Grand Bahama and Great Inagua are 23 inhabited islands and thousands of unpopulated islets and cays (pronounced “keys”). Cosmopolitan Nassau, once ruled by pirates, seems a world away from the desert-like wildlife sanctuary of Inagua. On many of the islands, tiny villages seem lifted from the Massachusetts coast and set down amongst palms and pines and iridescent sands.
These beautiful islands lie only 50 miles off the Florida coast – far closer than any destination in the Caribbean. Calm waters and cooling tradewinds have rightfully earned… click here to read more>>
Bermuda – BERMUDA RACE WEEKEND a thirty-five year old event. Held the second weekend in January (MLK weekend). Races include a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and Bermuda Triangle Challenge.
Bermuda offers an array of exquisite beaches of pink sand and turquoise water. The sand contains pink flecks that are the remains of a tiny organism known as red foam. This combined with tiny particles of broken shells and bits of coral create the pink hue of Bermuda’s beautiful beaches.
Bermuda has a number of parks and trails spread across the island with the Railway Trail running from St. George’s to Somerset, the thread connecting many of the parks. The Railway Trail is used by locals and visitors for walking, cycling, and various tours. A fabulous guide book for the self-guided tour of the back roads of Bermuda is ‘Hiking Bermuda’ by Cecile and Stephen Davidson.
No matter where you travel in Bermuda you are never too far from a museum or fort featuring the art, history and culture of Bermuda. The island’s rich history is recorded in museums from St. George’s through the City of Hamilton and on to Somerset and Dockyard, highlighting everything: art, china, maps, paintings, carriages, stamps, maritime and underwater objects that highlight Bermuda’s turbulent seafaring days.
Cayman Islands - CAYMAN ISLAND MARATHON a seven year old event. Held the first weekend in December. Races include a Marathon, Half Marathon, Four Person Relay and Fun Run.
Nestled in the calm, turquoise waters of the western Caribbean, lies the peaceful British Overseas Territory known as the Cayman Islands. Consisting of three islands just 480 miles south of Miami, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman remain our little piece of paradise.
Trinidad & Tobago - T&T INTERNATIONAL MARATHON a twenty seven year old event. Held the last weekend in January. Races include a Marathon, and 5k Fun Run.
There’s always something to celebrate in Trinidad. The contributions of the different ethnic groups that settled in these islands have combined to create a rich inheritance of dance, music, art, cuisine and festivals.
Many of the festivals celebrated in Trinidad, like the Muslim festivals of Hosay and Eid-ul-Fitr and the Hindu festival of Divali are religious observances.
Other festivals, like Emancipation Day, Shouter Baptist Liberation Day and Arrival Day, highlight the traditions, customs and contributions specific ethnic groups have made to the islands’ development.
Carnival, a two day explosion of colour and drama, is the ultimate showcase for the rich artistic and cultural expressions of the island. With a calendar of public holidays and festivals that is second to none, visitors are sure to encounter one or more of these diverse and exciting events, no matter when a trip is planned.
St Croix – US. Virgin Islands - ST.CROIX INTERNATIONAL MARATHON a nine year old event. Held the first weekend in December. Races include a Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay.
Visitors to St. Croix will see traces of St. Croix’s rich cultural diversity in the island’s distinctive arts, crafts, music and festivals. “Mocko Jumbies” (traditional stilt dancers thought to chase away evil spirits), reggae and calypso, steel pan bands and pulsating salsa are among the captivating sights and sounds that add to the island’s cultural mix. The Caribbean Dance Company (CDC), an ensemble that preserves and teaches the dance heritage of the Caribbean and West Indian culture, established itself on St. Croix in 1977. Its traditional folk dance performances, many with African roots, can be seen on the island all year round.
St. Croix’s unique culture is still celebrated in customs such as the European-inspired “quadrille” dance and “quelbe,” or “scratch,” music. The early settlers’ tradition of dancing from estate to estate has evolved into an organized town parade, performed to the sounds of drums, flutes, trumpets and gourds that are “scratched” for percussion.
The Crucian Christmas Festival, one of St. Croix’s most popular events, includes a month-long celebration that culminates in the Three Kings Day parade. Check out the St. Croix Events Calendar for more information on exciting events in St. Croix.
