Shakera won both the 100m and the 200m and was quite pleased with her performances as she is ahead off where she normally starts her season, both in the time and her overall fitness. Jamil was also satisfied with his 200m start as he had not raced over the distance for 2 seasons, opting to focus more on his pet event, the 400m. Jordan came away with a victory in the 5000m and was up very early the next morning to contest a road 10k, where he was the 3rd placed finisher.

Eric saved the best for last, producing a personal best with his first race for the season, leading World Junior Champion, Jehue Gordon of Trinidad and Tobago, to the last hurdle in the men’s 400m hurdles, before hitting that hurdle and losing the race by a narrow margin.  The race can be viewed here. Though it was very cold, they were both up for the challenge and ready to get an indication of where they are in their preparation for a chance to make the US World Championship Team and in 2012, the London Olympics. “The 1st mile was fast but we were comfortable at a 4:44 pace or so” said Jordan afterwards.  Corey finished 2nd and Jordan was 5th but as they both ran their fastest 5k to date, they were motivated to continue to push towards their goals. In the meantime, Barbados native , Ackeem Forde, and also a former EMU standout sprinter, opened his season with a venture into the 100m at the TCU Invitational in Dallas, Texas, a race he has not competed in since he was 15 years of age. Though wind aided, Ackeem’s 10:44 is the fastest he has ever ran this race. He also doubled back in the 200m with a personal best of 21.00 secs.
