Personal: Lela Nelson was born May 19, 1983, in Detroit, Michigan. She attended Eastern Michigan University where she completed a double major in Technical Writing and English. She began track at the urging of her sister's track coach, who assumed that because Lela's sister could run, so could she. Lela's goal for her track career is to make the first three at US Nationals as well as to score 6000 points or more.(Lela reached this goal in 2007) When she is not working at piling up points Lela spends her time with her Shih Tzu, Rogue. After her career has ended and she has accomplished her goals, Lela wants to do some consulting and be an entrepreneur.
