Personal: Philip Lagat was born on February 16, 1983 at Kesses Ketiplong Location, Uasin-Gish district, Kenya. When he was a young boy he began running 4km to and from his primary (elementary) school. During secondary (high) school he continued running by participating in the 100/200m, 4x100m and 4x200m races and relays, until he saw Moses Tanui. After seeing Moses, Philip determined in his heart that he wanted to run the longer road races like Moses. Philip's goal for this year is to run below each of his personal best times as well as begin to run the 5000m. When Philip is done with his track career he plans to share his knowledge of racing with primary aged boys and girls as a coach.
